Towing at the limit of the Tremor

I thought the more options, less Cargo... 2022- 401A I believe was 1800 range. which would have been perfect
I posted that door sticker.
It was from a Tremor that I had assigned to me for work back in June when I was doing a project in Houston.
Just a couple of points:
This was a stripper truck made during the pandemic (12/21). It had absolutely no options.
Base stereo, no Tremor logo on the seats. Even the gear selector was on the column.
Pretty sure it would be an example of the highest cargo capacity you could get.
At first, I was questioning if it was even a Tremor, but it had the wheels, upfitter switches etc.

I put the Billstein 5100's on the rear only, still stock front. I don't miss the floaty feeling (rear end is slightly firmer), or the body roll when making tight corners.....so far so good. Easy $200 upgrade for the mostly street driver Tremor owner. Might do the airbags next to reduce squat when towing, first I'll see if the new shocks alone can help with that.

My suspension is stock. I have the Bilstein 5100 to go on the front for a level, just haven't put them on yet.

I got the bags in place last night but I ran out of time to get the compressor hooked up. Maybe tonight I can get that install finished. I won't have the new boat until the end of the month. I have a 3 hour tow home so I'm sure to have some feedback after that.
Did you ever get your wireless onboard air installed? Which one did you go with and how are you liking the setup?

I just changed my TT for a 2025 Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S. Its hitch weight is heavier than others though. I have a RC 2.5" level upfront and Bilstein's 5100 rear with RAS HD. I also have Raptor Take offs 35" with KO2s that I run at 38 PSI all around when towing. These are my numbers: Payload 1539. Equalizer hitch rated for 1k tongue and 10k weight. The Trailer is 5499lbs dry and GVWR 6933 lbs. It says Hitch Weight 773 but once it had batteries and LP it was 840 lbs. I filled up the water tank and loaded the trailer and my Tongue weight it 1,000 lbs (I bought a tongue scale). The only thing not in the trailer is the food and maybe a few gallons of drinking water but that goes above the axel so it shouldn't mess with tongue weight. I have an aftermarket tonneau cover but I will remove it before towing. I travel with my spouse and 2 kids. Doing the math my payload is fine; Reaching the max for sure. I took into account the weight of the actual WDH. My concerns:
1. Tongue weight at 1k if traveling with full load of water
2. My WDH rated at 1k tongue weight
3. Running 38 psi on cold. It goes up pretty easy now that is summer. Should I run higher on the back?
4. I live in Utah (Mountains)
5. Should I load more things in the back of the trailer to reduce tongue weight?

I can post a picture tomorrow on the road. I need to take it to the dealership for a quick repair.

I highly recommend going over to a cat scale when you are fully loaded (with people and cargo) to see where you stand. Our rear axles are rated for 3800 lbs. I found that my "great setup" had us pushing close to 4k on the rear axle. Fortunately that was with an almost full tank of water so I was able to shed ~250 lbs from that alone.

I upgraded to e rated tires and that has helped the driving experience tremendously. I need to do my next run through a cat scale to test the difference the air bag pressures make on the rear axle and the load distribution in general.

As for loading things to the back to reduce tongue weight. Caution with this as an improperly distributed weight can cause sway (or more sway).

I wound up being 60 over on the rear axle and 80 over on GVWR so I still need to find where I can shed some weight. Im considering a lithium battery to shed 25ish pounds.

Thanks. I am doing this tomorrow. For your set up above the front axle max is 3600 lbs. Have you tried adjusting your WDH so it pushes it more towards the front and reduce your rear? Or is that not how it works?

No, unfortunately I haven't done that yet but do plan to. This was my first round of visits to the cat scale to see how everything impacts everything else. I can shift the weight forward but im still 80 over GVWR so right now my focus has been weight reduction and shifting of the load inside the travel trailer. I moved 50ish lbs of gear and netted a 100 lb weight reduction on the truck if I recall correctly.

What hitch do you have?

I just did a 13 hour round trip camping weekend. Truck pulled it amazing. I only had a a golf cart in the toy hauler and no water. So I was probably right around the 11500 trailer weight at that setup.

Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution w/ 4-Point Sway Control 1k Tongue / 10k Weight Max

The Tongue scale I bought is

Simple WEIGH™ Tongue Weight Scale

Bought it in Amazon for $100. I know that even though it says my tongue weight is 1,000 lbs fully loaded part of that gets transferred to the front.
I will post some pictures of the trailer and truck and also post the CAT scale results this week.

Have you weighed yours at a cat scale? Curious if the ballast concept is working.

i have not weighed it with the garage empty yet unfortunately. I would be a good idea to do that though. I just haven't pulled it anywhere empty. I have scaled it loaded down for a race weekend though.

So first time driving it and I have all 54gal of water full. At freeway speeds it feels the truck is moving slightly right and left. Like a sway but on the truck. I don’t see the trailer swaying. I’m not sure what’s wrong with the WDH. Do I need to add more to the front ? Or more to the rear? Also the tongue weight on this is fairly heavy. Before leaving it was 1,000 lbs. bass on these measurements what do you guys recommend? Before I make more adjustments to the WDH.

I would run the truck through by itself so you can have all your data.

As for the truck feeling that way - when was your last alignment (at least check)? Are you running e rated tires? If so, call the manufacturer or find the inflation load chart to see what PSI you should be at to at least match the load rating of the stock tires. For my Toyo AT3s I need to run 44 just to match the Grabber SLs. I am currently running about 48 cold (around 50/51 warmed up). I added air bags around the same time I switched tires, but I can say it was a world of difference between this tow and my tows without bags and while having the RAS setup.

So, the first thing I'd do is check your tire PSI and see how that feels. You're good on all your weight limits.

For comparison, heres what my truck was before attaching the trailer (loaded with people, pets, cargo, and WDH without bars).

I have the raptor takeoff wheels with BF KO2. 315/70R17 So not E rated. I run 38 psi and when I did the calculator it stated that would be fine in comparison to the stock tremor tires. I’ll run 40 and see. Also I do have the RAS and Bilstein 5100.
So the ratio of front and back in terms of weight is fine? Or slight some more to the front or the back?
To these I need to add wife and two kids which is 220 lbs

Since you're running 35s I can't really comment on that and would defer to someone else running 35s and towing a similar load. That sidewall difference COULD be what youre describing but I just have no experience to help.

Repeat from earlier, but when was your last alignment?

I bought the truck 4 months ago and it was aligned. I also don't feel any issues of alignment when not towing.
On the way back I dumped half the water tank and my tongue measured to 950 lbs. Thank you for answering on this though. I will see about talking to someone from Equalizer (Hitch) and see if I can get some guidance. Could be just a minor adjustment. I was towing before a lighter trailer. Maybe by 1,000 pounds and I was not having any issues at all.
